Room for Both

The Swiss Alps are gorgeous; you take off on the banks of Lake Geneva and head towards the famous Matterhorn. It is sublime, especially on a clear day, sunny and with the snow, covering the terrain in March.

Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, and Jameson Greer, the trade representative, met with the Chinese delegation in that beautiful area and here's what we know…

  1. We have an agreement to pause tariffs for 90 days; the countdown has begun.

During this time, both countries have lowered tariffs by 115%, so China has it at 10% and the U.S. has it at 10%, plus another 20% on fentanyl, for an effective 30%.

  1. The two countries have found their SHARED INTERESTS.

This is great news, because it serves as the bedrock for further dealings.

  1. The key is balanced trade: the trade deficit has reached $1.2tn under Sleepy Joe and the Autopen crew.

This is unacceptable and ENDS TODAY.

  1. Scott Bessent explained that during Trump's 1st term, tariffs were already in place and a comprehensive trade deal was being worked on, when Fauci's virus leaked from the Wuhan lab and exposed America's vulnerable supply chain.

Today, Bessent says that both countries have a plan, a process and the mechanism to build trade together, in a way that addresses America's concerns.

    1. The 145% tariffs, imposed on China, was the only way to show the CCP what decoupling would look like.

It was a lesson. The CCP chose not to go that way; therefore, they are choosing open markets.

    1. Strategic industries, such as medicine, steel and semiconductors, will not be dependent on China.

Optimal supply chains will make way to reliable ones.

    1. Bessent explained that long-standing trade deficits are a signal for a problem.

What they represent is one of these three issues:

    • Terms of the agreements between the two countries.
    • Currency manipulations.
    • Fiscal positions of respective governments.

This is what the two parties will be focused on, especially when the CCP knows Trump's policy on fiscal responsibility and a reliable dollar.

    1. The first major problem that Jameson Greer and Bessent had to contend with was China's disgust with Blinken and the Biden team of gross incompetents, which they despised.

China hates arrogance and respects straight talk.

    1. Trump's "AMERICA FIRST" economic plan is based on three items.

Bessent is working on all three.

    1. Trade.
    2. Taxes – the "Big, Beautiful Bill."
    3. Deregulations.

"America First," to summarize, means that business as usual, is over. Your president works for you, not for the state.
