Now I am Become Death, The Destroyer of Worlds
Christopher Nolan directed many complex movies and some mega-hits like the Batman movies, Interstellar, Inception, Memento, and The Prestige, but his best work so far, in my opinion, is Dunkirk.
Dunkirk is a movie all about WW2, and so is Oppenheimer.
We have spent years researching this era in human history. We wanted to understand what led to dropping bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and if this could happen again today.
THE MAN WHO GAVE THE ORDER
He had a high school education before working as a mail boy, a timekeeper, and a bank clerk in Kansas City at the turn of the 20th century. Wearing glasses since he was just a little boy, he said that he was blind as a bat and would run from fights.
Every morning between 5 AM and 7 AM in Independence, MI, this small-town boy would play the piano before going to school and would read books about George Washington in the library.
Poor and in debt, his father lost a fortune speculating on grains futures and mortgaged their home in the process when he was only 21. They were penniless, and by the time this Missouri-born male was 29, he had gone back from the city (where he had been working for a bank) to work the farm with his father for eight years.
In 1914, his father suffered a grave injury in the field. On his death bed, he told his son that his life was a failure: bankruptcies, a farm in debt, and only modest means in his best years…
Harry (the son) would later say about his dad: “How could his life been a failure if his son became the President of the United States?”

Harry is Harry S. Truman, the president that shouldn’t have been and the man in charge of giving the order to drop the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In America, not a great deal of commemorating or even mentioning is made on Truman’s behalf, but when I finished the movie, the only thing I wanted to do was understand who the man capable of making such decisions was.
My observation of the need to drop the bombs on the Japanese has been fully addressed. The rationale of the people around him was that Japan wouldn’t surrender and would fight until the death of each person before giving up the emperor.
In November 1945, America was to send hundreds of thousands of its men to die in battle over the island of Japan and the Pacific if something wasn’t done.
How would Truman or the Democratic Party justify to the American people not using a weapon that was deemed the one that could instantly end the war and save millions of lives?
Indeed, Harry S. Truman was forced to make one of the worst decisions any human being was ever in a position to act upon, and I want to tell you that it was Japan’s unwillingness to wave the white flag that drove the world into the insanity of redefining the word “target” to include civilians, even women and children.
I am not saying Russia or Ukraine ought to surrender, but I think that if bigger forces (China and the United States) don’t step in and use their leverage to make the world work for everyone, we are at grave danger of repeating the most dangerous situation of all: a nuclear explosion.
