3 Super Foods for the Wealthy Heart
Making money is fun and living rich is great, but none of this matters if you’re not alive to enjoy it.
Treat your health as your most important asset, because it is! Whole foods, leisure, good sleep, doing what you love, great sex, and wine are all part of the recipe to living a long and fulfilling life.
When it comes to the foods we eat, this can determine our physical appearance, energy levels, and our body’s ability to fight off disease.
The world is pretty good at focusing on things we shouldn’t be eating, like processed foods, deep-fried chicken, and too many sugars. But what about focusing on where we can maximize our return for our bodies?
For my wife and I, we know that we can’t avoid all bad things, because the fact is I’m overweight, and I didn’t get this way from eating too many salads. It’s food, for me. Eating is fun, and I love having great food.
A strategy I use when it comes to food is to focus on the big picture and narrow my cravings down to the things that will help me the most, while avoiding the things that will hurt me the most.
I like statistics, so if I can take something out that increases the chance of cancer by 85% and then include something that also reduces it by 85%, I feel like I am putting the odds in my favor.
Some of the big ones that I try to avoid are white rice, white bread, and white sugar. By just killing off these foods in my life, I’ve already got a head start in reducing all sorts of diseases tied to these foods. I also don’t eat meat at home. In fact, the only thing we cook is salmon; otherwise, we are eating a plant-based diet.
For foods to focus on, I am obviously biased towards a vegetarian diet, but what if you just can’t do it? No problem. Instead, focus on upping your odds of living a lot longer on this planet disease-free by making it a weekly habit to consume these 3 foods…
#1) Blueberries (highest antioxidant of any fruit)
Gallic acid: Thousands of studies have shown that this is a cancer killer, and it has been described as a medication powerhouse. One study showed that it literally protects your brain from degeneration.A few cancer research groups in the UK have gone as far as saying blueberries can outright prevent and cure diseases, like cancer. The fiber in blueberries also fights heart disease by dissolving “bad cholesterol.”
#2) Spinach (high in vitamin K)
I love spinach. I will oftentimes eat a bowl of it for breakfast, with some leftover salmon from the night before. It’s full of vitamins, like K, A, C, and B. It’s also rich in antioxidants like blueberries, which makes for the perfect combo for daily eating.Studies have shown that spinach may literally slow the aging of the brain! All sorts of studies are popping up that show it lowers the risk of cancer and other diseases. So far, spinach has been the only vegetable to show up as an aggressive prostate cancer fighter.
Researchers have cited that spinach has a unique anti-cancer carotenoid (called epoxyxanthophylls) that it is enriched with.
#3) Wild salmon (Omega-3)
Salmon is rich in vitamin D, which has been linked in several studies as a big preventer in cancers, such as colon and breast cancer. Scientists believe that vitamin D may block the development of blood vessels that feed tumors and help stop the creation of cancer cells. Just one or two servings of salmon a week could reduce your risk of a heart attack, stroke, blood clotting, high blood pressure, and even irregular heartbeats.
Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation throughout your body. With all the disease coming from inflammation, why not focus on eliminating it?
The Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon have also shown improvement in the learning ability of children, so it’s a great meal for the kids, too. If the idea of salmon-tasting fish just makes you cringe, try grilling them on cedar wood planks. I’ve been doing this for the past 3 years and haven’t had one complaint, even from people who don’t eat fish.
Cover them in virgin olive oil, crack some fresh ground pepper and Himalayan sea salt, add a dash of dried parsley, and just let it sit in a closed grill for 20 minutes. It comes out perfect and tastes amazing.
By focusing on the two biggest killers — heart disease and cancer — we are increasing our chances of a happy, healthy life… one that takes us way past the average lifespan.
